A day aboard a crewed yacht, from dawn to sunset

Those who have never been on a crewed charter often wonder how time is spent on board. The answer is: however you like. But to give you an idea, here is what a day aboard a yacht can be like, from dawn to sunset.

Morning: waking up at anchor

You wake up at anchor, with crystal-clear water beneath the stern. The first swim is often before breakfast. Meanwhile the crew sets the table in the cockpit: coffee, fruit, sweet or savoury, according to what you indicated in the preference sheet.

Mid-morning: setting sail

The captain suggests the day’s stop based on the weather. Passages are usually short: an hour or two to reach a new bay, an island, a village. On the way you sunbathe on the bow or relax in the shade on the flybridge.

Lunch: long and in the shade

Once in the new anchorage, the anchor goes down and lunch is enjoyed at leisure. Catch of the day, seasonal vegetables, a glass of chilled wine. With a private chef on board, every lunch becomes a small event.

Afternoon: sea and water toys

  • Snorkelling along the rocks.
  • A tender trip to a beach reachable only from the sea.
  • SUP, kayak or other water toys, if available.
  • Or simply a book and a nap in the sun.

Sunset: aperitif time

It is the most anticipated moment. The crew prepares an aperitif on deck as the sun goes down. Some guests choose to move into port for the evening; others prefer to stay at anchor, in the quiet.

Evening: dinner on board or ashore

Dinner under the stars on board, or the tender takes guests to a restaurant ashore. If the itinerary includes an evening in port, it is a chance for a stroll through the village centre.

Who does what on board

The captain drives the boat and makes the safety decisions. The deckhand handles mooring, tender and toys. The stewardess looks after the cabins and service. The chef, when there is one, looks after the kitchen. The number depends on the boat: it is always stated in the proposal for each of our charters.

Can the plan change during the day?

Of course. Just talk to the captain, who will assess the weather and distances.

How much sailing is there in a week?

It is up to you: some prefer to see many islands, others to stay several days in the same area.
