July and August are the most popular months, but those who know the sea know that the weeks around summer have a charm all their own. Here is why it is worth considering a low-season charter, in May, June or September.
Quieter bays
Outside August the most famous anchorages empty out. Finding an anchorage in a cove, going ashore without queues, dining at a harbourside restaurant without booking weeks ahead: everything becomes easier.
More boats to choose from
In high season the best boats are booked well in advance. In low season there is more choice, and often more flexibility on dates and embarkation ports. If you are already thinking about summer, read when to book a charter anyway.

- May: long, bright days, green nature, water still cool for long swims.
- June: the sea warms up, the days are the longest of the year, and the August crowds have not yet arrived.

Some areas are at their best at the beginning or end of summer. The Amalfi Coast is more relaxed, the French Riviera can be enjoyed without the August crowds, and the Aeolian Islands in June and September are perfect for nature lovers.
Major events early in the season
May and June are also the months of some of the most anticipated major events, such as the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix: a way to combine the charter with a unique experience.
